Liverpool have their sights on landing Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni when the transfer window reopens in the New Year, according to Fichajes.

The pressure is on manager Arne Slot and he could be backed with a new centre-back in January. Fichajes claim that Bastoni has emerged as the top target for the Reds.

With Inter Milan's financial troubles, it is claimed that a package of around £88 million could persuade them to part ways with the Italian star this winter.

If Liverpool were to sign Bastoni, there could be a position shift for Virgil van Dijk, given the Italian is a left-footed centre-back, who operates from the left side.

Van Dijk may have to operate from the right-sided central defensive role if Slot decides to partner him alongside Bastoni and drop Ibrahima Konate to the bench.
