Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that the reason behind Wesley Fofana missing out on the matchday squad to face Burnley on Saturday.
The Blues climbed to second in the Premier League standings after a hard-fought victory over the Clarets at Turf Moor. Pedro Neto opened the scoring after a dominant start from the hosts.
The London giants stood firm on their slender 1-0 lead until a late second goal from Enzo Fernandez before stoppage time. Speaking before the game, Maresca revealed that Fofana was just being rested.
The Italian tactician said that the Frenchman is being protected at the moment, given his injury record in the last few years.
He said: "Just to manage him and protect him a little bit. He is playing, he is good and he is fit and we are very happy with that."
Fofana is likely to return to the starting XI when the Blues entertain La Liga giants Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek.
