Manchester United are set to confirm the appointment of Michael Carrick as their interim manager for the rest of the campaign.
The Red Devils parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim earlier this month, and he was replaced by Darren Fletcher as the caretaker.
Fletcher has been in the dug-out for the last two games, but he is poised to make way for Carrick, who has agreed terms over the interim role.
United bowed out of the FA Cup yesterday against Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls secured a 2-1 victory over the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
With the result, United are out of all cup competitions, and they need to fully focus on qualifying for the Champions League through a top-four/five league finish.
The Red Devils are presently three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool and one behind fifth-placed Brentford, who have been this season's surprise packages.
United face a huge challenge on Saturday when they host arch-rivals Manchester City. A victory over Pep Guardiola's side would provide a huge boost for them.
