Chelsea have made a final transfer decision on Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet this winter.
The Blues recently explored the possibility of landing Jacquet from Rennes, but have been unsuccessful in negotiating a transfer fee.
The 19-year-old has already agreed terms over a long-term contract, but Rennes are quite clear that he won't leave for less than £61 million.
The Blues, on the other hand, are reluctant to pay more than £45m, and it now appears they are prepared to halt their pursuit of the centre-back.
Chelsea are likely to make a renewed approach in the summer, having opted to recall Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
Anselmino was initially expected to stay at the Bundesliga outfit for the campaign, but has now been recalled following the failure to land Jacquet.
The Blues can expect competition for Jacquet in the summer. Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are also concrete admirers of him.
Rennes will hope for a bidding war so that their price is met.
