Liverpool are ready to compete with Chelsea to land Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet during the summer transfer window, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds are poised to bolster their central defence this year and Jacquet has been identified as a top target. The Merseyside giants have recently opened negotiations over a summer deal.
Chelsea, on the other hand, tried to finalise a winter move for the teenager, but could not convince Rennes. They offered £45m for the centre-back, but the French outfit want at least £61m.
Both clubs are now in concrete talks with the Ligue 1 outfit. They could face competition from Bayern Munich for the highly-rated defender.
It is most likely that a pre-transfer agreement could be reached this winter as there could be more competition from other clubs for him too.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also monitoring the player's situation, but they have not made any formal contact regarding a transfer.
