Arsenal are weighing up a move for highly-rated Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt as Mikel Arteta looks to add more energy, athleticism and technical quality to his midfield ahead of next season.

  • The 20-year-old Dane has emerged as one of the breakout stars in Portugal after helping Porto win the Primeira Liga title in his first season at the club. Froholdt has reportedly contributed eight goals and six assists across all competitions, while also ranking among Porto’s leaders for minutes played, underlining just how quickly he has become a key figure.

Arsenal’s interest appears serious, but any deal would come at a significant cost. Reports in England suggest Porto would demand around £52 million, despite Froholdt having a release clause worth closer to £73 million. Porto only signed him from Copenhagen last summer for around £20 million, meaning the Portuguese champions are already set for a huge profit if they decide to sell.

Competition for his signature is expected to be fierce. Newcastle United are believed to be monitoring the midfielder closely, while Liverpool have also been linked after scouting his performances this season. Arsenal may feel they hold an advantage thanks to Arteta’s track record of developing young midfielders, but Porto know there is strong Premier League demand building around the player.

Froholdt’s style would appear to suit Arsenal’s system perfectly. He is capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder, deeper controller or advanced runner, with scouts praising his ability to carry the ball through pressure and cover huge ground defensively. His physical profile and tactical flexibility have reportedly made him one of the most watched young midfielders in Europe this year.
