Manchester United are the frontrunners to land the signature of AC Milan centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic during the summer transfer window.
The Mancunian giants are expected to make many changes to the squad ahead of next season, and a marquee centre-back could be targeted too.
Pavlovic, 24, has turned heads in Serie A with his performances at the Rossoneri, and he could pursue a bigger challenge when the season concludes.
Milan are determined to keep him in their ranks, but acknowledge that the task could be difficult if they miss out on Champions League football.
The Rossoneri were cruising to their goal earlier this year, but recent defeats mean that they are just ahead of fifth-placed Roma on head-to-head.
If Pavlovic becomes available, United seem prepared to pounce on his signature. The Serbian could be signed for around £43 million.
The Red Devils have the centre-back position covered with Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Matthijs de Ligt.
A move for Pavlovic would be a surprise, given the Serbian may want assurances of regular playing time to join the club this summer.
