Arsenal are lining up an opening bid for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Gunners were linked with the Italy international at the start of the year, but a formal offer was never made to the Magpies.
However, this has not ended the speculation, and Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the club have contacted Tonali's camp.
The Premier League champions could now follow up their transfer interest with a formal bid to Newcastle in the next few days.
Newcastle only recently sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70m and this has boosted their finances after a poor league season.
Hence, they are in a strong position to negotiate and it could take at least £100m to persuade them to part ways with Tonali.
Manchester United have also been regularly linked with the former AC Milan, but they have no plans of entering a bidding war.
Arsenal seem the frontrunners in the pursuit of the 26-year-old.
