Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi has emerged as a possible target for Real Madrid after their failure to land Rodri this month.
The Madrid giants were eager to bring Rodri from Manchester City, but the Spain international prefers to move to Barcelona instead.
As a result, Los Blancos are searching for a proper alternative, and Zubimendi has re-emerged as a target for the Spanish heavyweights.
Madrid were hot on the trail of Zubimendi last year, but they were beaten to his signature by the Gunners for a reported fee of £60 million.
Zubimendi had a brilliant first half of last season with the Gunners, but his form and performances dropped significantly in the back end.
Arsenal have now signed a marquee midfielder in Bruno Guimaraes, and he is widely expected to partner Declan Rice next campaign.
With Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly also present in the squad, Zubimendi could ideally move on for regular playing time.
Madrid have been tipped to return for the 27-year-old, but he won't come on the cheap. Arsenal want at least £77m for a transfer.
