Coppell warns Ronaldo

10 July 2008 - 06:11

Reading manager and former Manchester United player Steve Coppell has warned Cristiano Ronaldo over a possible move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

  • Chelsea want to sign Alejandro Garnacho for £30m?
  • Chelsea agree deal to sign wonderkid for €40m

  • The 23-year old Portuguese international winger has been severely linked with a move to the Bernabeu this summer and according to certain reports, Manchester United and Real Madrid have already agreed a deal.

But the Reading boss Steve Coppell now says that should Ronaldo indeed make the switch from Old Trafford to the Bernabeu he would committing a mistake as he woud actually be moving down a pedetal.

Coppell believes that Ronaldo is at a club that suits him and remarks that any move would imply a move down the ladder for the star.

"I can only repeat what Tommy Docherty said to me," the ex-United midfielder replied when asked about Ronaldo’s situation.

"I will never forget it. Many years ago when I signed for United he said any move from United is a move down. I very much echo those thoughts."
