Baraja hopeful for Valencia trio

Baraja hopeful for Valencia trio

15 July 2008 - 18:30

Valencia veteran Ruben Baraja has expressed his hope the club trio of David Villa, David Silva and Joaquin can be persuaded to play on at the Mestalla beyond the summer.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Valencia have been tipped to lose several of their stars, the aforementioned players included, this summer as they allegedly to trim down their budget in the wake of last seasons disastrious La Liga campaign in which they just managed to stave off relegation.

Veteran Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja is wary of the fact that indeed Silva, Villa and Joquin all could leave the Mestalla this summer but insists that the club would be more than happy to coax them to stay back.

This is what the Spanish international midfielder had to say about the current situation at Valencia:

"If it is ultimately confirmed that David Silva, David Villa and Joaquin will continue, it will be one of the great stories of the summer, because the team will have a more competitive level."

On Villa's demands for a new contract, Baraja said: "In all walks of life there are levels, people who earn more and who earn less. The responsibility goes hand in hand and the accountability of Villa is bigger than other players."
