Sunderland boss Roy Keane believes the club have pulled off a major coup by resigning defender George McCartney.
"I think a lot of clubs have been looking for left backs," he said.
"We identified George a few months ago and have been trying very, very hard to do a deal and, fortunately for us, we managed to get over the line on the last day.
"George is a very good player and one of the best left backs, I feel, in the Premiership.
"He knows the club, he's played a lot of games in the Premiership and we're delighted to have him back.
"He'll have a chance to get involved on Saturday."
