Wilkins slams Arsenal boss

Wilkins slams Arsenal boss

12 November 2008 - 07:49

Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins has slammed Arsene Wenger's policy for fielding younger players in the Carling Cup, claiming that his policy undermines the true value of the competition.

  • Chelsea defender back in training ahead of Man Utd game
  • Chelsea keen on re-signing former graduate
  • Wenger believes that the Carling Cup is as important to football as any of the other tournaments.

"It’s all about winning trophies when you’re a big club," he said in The Sun.

"The fact we’ve won the Carling Cup twice in the last four years and Arsenal have won none justifies our policy.

"You enter a competition to win the competition. Why go into it if you’re not concerned whether you win it?

"Playing a young or weakened team undermines the value of the competition.

"And we have not and will not do that. We want to win it, big time."
