Spurs Defoe out for 10 weeks

Spurs' Defoe out for 10 weeks

03 February 2009 - 07:15

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is likely to be missing for around 10 weeks after a fracture was discovered in the England international's foot. It is a huge blow for Spurs who had been hoping to partner Defoe with new signing Robbie Keane.

  • Chelsea have held talks for Ayyoub Bouaddi
  • Chelsea want Newcastle star to replace Cucurella?
  • It seems that Tottenham fans will have to wait a little while longer to see the returning partnership of Robbie Keane and Jermain.

“Following further scans and examination, Jermain Defoe will undergo surgery tomorrow after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot,” read a Tottenham statement.

“Early detection has allowed the club to opt for the best long-term treatment.

“Contrary to newspaper reports that Jermain may have been carrying the injury undetected at the time of his rejoining the club, the injury, to the fifth metatarsal, was sustained post signing during a training session in the indoor arena.

“Jermain is likely to be out for up to ten weeks.”
