Tonight Liverpool and Everton will do battle as they take part in Round four of their epic battle, as they meet in the Fourth Round Replay at Goodison, which will be the fourth time these great rivals have met this season.

  • Arsenal handed major boost on Odegaard for Newcastle trip
  • Enzo Maresca explains why Cole Palmer didn't face Newcastle

  • 10 days ago, Steven Gerrards equaliser ensured a replay, after Jolean Lescott had given the Blues an early lead. Tim Cahill is set to lead the line once again for Everton, as he continues his lone striker role due to the injuries of Yakubu, Saha and Vaughan, whilst deadline day loan signing Jo is cup tied. Rafa Benitezs only injury concern is that of Phillip Degen, as the Swiss international has been ruled out for weeks, after breaking a metertarsal, whilst Benitez looks likely to stick with the side that beat Chelsea at Anfield on Sundya. The last time these sides met in the cup before this season, the magic of the cup was evident. The such short, simple words of Liverpool, Everton and FA Cup, are enough to bring memories flooding back, that will last a life time, those four words, are part of FA Cup history, and the events that have taken place there, could fill up a large book. A thrilling 4-4 draw was encountered at Goodison Park in 1991, as on four seperate occasions, Liverpool took the lead, only to be pegged back by their neighbours, that night Kenny Dalglish left as manager, claiming he needed the break, the rest and to be away from the stess, although others say the events that had unfolded at Hillsborough had eventually caught up with the scotsman The following week, Liverpool lost the return leg at Anfield, and it was then the turn of Alan Hansen, to hang up his boots on an illustrious footballing career. But the FA Cup history between these great rivals goes further back then that. Liverpool and Everton competed in two FA Cup finals in 1986, when the Reds beat Everton 3-1 at Wembley, but its the one three years later, that will be remembered more in the history of both clubs. Liverpool had to win the FA Cup at Wembley that day, not for themselves, but for the 96 and their families. Just a month earlier, the tragedy at Hillsborough had unfolded, and it pulled the city together. Everton fans helped Liverpool fans, and was there at Anfield the following day tying Scarfs on the Kop, the city was united in grief. That day at Wembley, as scousers, Red and Blue, walked up Wembley way singing 'Merseyside', it was a city united who travelled to London. As the full ground joined in 'You'll Never Walk Alone', the result was irrelevant, all that mattered was that Liverpool won the cup for the 96, and their families, before pushing on to acheive Justice, while still, to this day, has not been found. This year, the Reds are looking to perform on one of the biggest stages in world football, in one of the biggest competitons in world football. A full house is expected at Goodison, with the reds looking to progress to the next round, and keep a possible treble on the cards.
