Chelsea are apparently monitoring the progress of promising youngster Axel Witsel. The Belgium international had yet another cracking season for Standard Liege.

Witsel is capable of playing anywhere up front or in midfield, and is seen as one of the most versatile young players in Europe.



Chelsea would be prepared to pay up to £15 million to bring the youngster to the club, and would consider the player as a long-term replacement for Michael Ballack.
