Arsenal are believed to be moving closer to agreeing a fee for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh. It is believed the Gunners have agreed a £5 million deal with the French club.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip

  • Arsenal have been rocked by injury this year but have maintained a stable position in the Premiership.

Arsene Wenger came close to signing Chamakh during the summer, but terms were not agreed with the player.

With Chamakh set to see his contract expire this summer, the Gunners are ready to make a cut price move for the player.

“I’d like my situation to be fixed quickly, both for me and the club,” Chamakh told RMC Radio.

“If I’m not staying I want the club [Bordeaux] to have time to replace me. I’m still thinking about it, it’s not an easy decision which you take on a whim.

“I still have two to three weeks to sort things out. Whatever happens, by the end of January I will five my answer to president Jean-Louis Triaud before speaking to the media.”
