McLeish waits on Birmingham offer

16 January 2010 - 08:36

Alex McLeish is ready to start discussing terms over a new contract at Birmingham after a wonderful start to the season which sees the Blues lie in seventh spot in the league table.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • McLeish has guided Birmingham City near to European qualification spots after some sterling displays this season.

Now McLeish is ready to tie up a new deal for himself.

Big Eck said: "Why not talk about a contract? My coaches deserve a review and we can all be accessible in terms of a review of contracts.

"I've got a year and half to go and I'd like to think there is the scope to extend that.

"It's the same as a player. If his contract is about to run out and it's someone we want to go forward with, then we have to protect ourselves. You can lose valuable assets for less than they'd command if they'd been tied up."
