Maccabi Tel-Aviv are to ask Lothar Matthaus to become their new boss. It is believed that Matthaus was looking for a challenge somewhere within Africa, but now has turned his attentions to coaching Maccabi.
Despite co-leading the team to the Austrian league title by a big margin, Matthäus would eventually be fired on June 12, 2007 by unanimous decision of the Red Bull Salzburg's board of directors.
The German has since been looking for work.
