Merson: Milner to quit Aston Villa

Paul Merson beleives that England and Aston Villa midfielder James Milner will be quitting the club this summer. It is understood that Roberto Mancini has made him his first target this summer.

  • Milner has indicated that he would be interested to quit the club if an opportunity was made available to him.

Roberto Mancini will be ready to discuss terms with Aston Villa after the World Cup, and his initial offer will be in the region of 20 million GBP for the former Leeds and Newcastle man.

Merson said: “I’d be shocked if Milner is at Villa next season. When a club like Manchester City come in at £20m, if they want him they’ll go again. A few extra million is nothing to them.

“It’s a lot of money to turn down but the worrying thing for me is that Villa haven’t come out and said he’s not for sale. It’s all the encouragement that City need.

“He will want to go and win something. Villa had a phenomenal season last year and yet they won nothing."
