Keane saves Spurs blushes

Keane saves Spurs' blushes

04 October 2007 - 18:04

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane saved Spurs from an embarassing defeat at Anorthosis Famagusta. Tottenham have now booked their place in the UEFA Cup group stages in unconvincing fashion in Cyprus.

  • Chelsea want Crystal Palace star to bolster defence
  • Chelsea to target Carlos Baleba if Enzo Fernandez leaves?
  • Tottenham already had a convincing lead from their first-leg tie at White Hart Lane, but worries were raised when Fabio De Matos Pereira, known as Fabinho, had given the hosts the lead at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium.

But Keane came off the bench to level on the night after the Barclays Premier League side had established a 6-1 lead from the first leg two weeks ago.

As for suggestions Jol is feeling the heat, the Dutchman told Five: "I'm used to it, I have to cope with it.

"It's been going on for the last six or seven weeks - but I feel in the last month we have done well."

Keane added: "I'm sick of people even talking about it to be honest.

"We are trying to do a job for the team and to get a result.

"It was good not getting beaten - we knew it would be tough.

"6-1 flattered us a little bit in the first leg but we did our job.

"The most important thing is we're through to the next round, so we go home happy enough."
