Chelsea defender Alex is wanted by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The Brazilian defender has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of David Luiz, and the Blues are ready to sell at a price of £10m.
Alex, 29, played only 12 games for Chelsea last year; and in January he was reported to have handed in a transfer request, citing his frustrations for sitting on the bench for the Blues.
Andre Villas-Boas has told Alex he will again only be a substitute this year and he is free to leave the club.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to find a new centre back to tidy up his leaky defence; and according to reports will make an offer for the Brazilian this week.
