Wigan to reject all Rodallega offers

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez admitted that the club would rather lose Colombian international striker Hugo Rodallega for free in the summer than sell the player on the cheap this month. Rodallega is out of contract at the end of the season.

Wigan's talks with Rodallega over a new contract stalled last month and it appears the Latics have given up on contract talks for the time being, and instead have decided to focus on Premier League survival.

Martinez admmitted that he would rather risk losing Rodallega on a Bosman in the summer, rather than selling the striker this month. Liverpool had been linked with a 4.5 million GBP move for Hugo in this transfer window, but so far no bids have been received by the Latics.

Martinez said: "We are going to leave the contract talks for now. In our position we haven't got the money other clubs have got to go out and spend but we don't have to sell if we don't feel it is right for the club.

"It's more important for us to keep Hugo playing for us until the end of the season than try to cash in."

The Colombian wants a reported 90,000 GBP per week to stay at the DW Stadium, some way short of Wigan's last offer. Contract talks will recommence before the end of the season.
