Di Matteo cautious despite Benfica victory
Roberto di Matteo, the interim Chelsea boss, refuses to believe that his team have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals, despite a 1-0 victory over Benfica in Portugal last night. A single goal from Salomon Kalou earned the Blues victory in the first leg.
Chelsea staggered past Napoli in the previous round of the same competition, and now look forward to the second leg against Benfica at Stamford Bridge.
"I think we've put ourselves in a good position, but it's not a result you can rely upon for the home game. It's one goal. You look at he results Benfica have achieved in this Champions League... you're not going to sleep very calmly looking at that," said the Italian.
"We are pleased that we're in a different position going into the second leg. We had a mountain to climb against Napoli. We still have a mountain, but it may be a little bit smaller because we've achieved a good result here."
