Manchester City Back Out Of Cavani Bid

Serie A club, Napoli have claimed that Manchester City have pulled out of the race for their forward Edinson Cavani, following reports that suggested City’s reluctance to meet the asking price of the player.

In a press conference where Rafael Benitez was official unveiled as the new manager for Napoli, the president Aurelio de Laurentiis revealed that City were not prepared to pay 54million pounds for Cavani as mentioned in his buy-out clause.


"Manchester City do not have money to pay for Cavani because they say we won't pay that," De Laurentiis disclosed.


"Abu Dhabi (City's owners) say they would never pay 63m euros (£54m) for Cavani."


He also said that presently Real Madrid are leading the race for his sign. But they will have to overcome Chelsea’s interest in Cavani.


"At this time, Real Madrid are the only club who have made a firm offer for Cavani”


"It is human, if Real Madrid call, to answer. He knows he has a clause and must decide.”


Laurentiis continued to speak over the matter and added that clubs like the Spanish giants and Bayern Munich could influence the 26 year old to make a club exit this summer. He strongly doubts if Cavani’s role and importance at other clubs could match his stature at Napoli.


"He could never deny the importance of a club like Real Madrid's, but don't forget that he made his name at Napoli”


"He knows that he has a contract and an obligation to us, and there is a buy-out clause.”


"Cavani knows that at Napoli he is the most important player. I do not know whether, at Real Madrid or in other teams, he will be as important."
