Genoa wrap up deal to sign Nicolas Burdisso and Marco Motta

Ambitious Italian side Genoa have agreed a double deal to sign defensive duo Nicolas Burdisso and Marco Motta. Argentinian international Burdisso arrives from Roma whilst Marco Motta joins from Serie A table topping side Juventus.

Marco Motta has struggled to force his way into Juventus boss Antonio Conte's plans this season and has subsequently sought pastures new and arrived at Genoa on loan for the season, meanwhile Nicolas Burdisso arrives from Rome for an undisclosed fee and penned a three year contract at his new team.

Motta, 27, can also move to Genoa on a permanent deal once his loan transfer expires in June.

Nicolas Burdisso asked for a transfer away from Roma almost two months ago due to growing concerns that he would not be a part of Argentina's squad for the World Cup in South America next year. With the World Cup tournament fast approaching, Burdisso is looking for regular football at his new club; there is a chance that a bet on football and regular action at Genoa will ensure his place on the plane to Brazil.

Burdisso has played for Inter Milan and Boca Juniors before Roma so far in his illustrious career, but enjoyed the most success at Inter. Genoa are expected to play the defender as their first choice centre back.

Motta, on the other hand, is somewhat of a journeyman having played for both Atalanta and Udinese prior to joining the "Old Lady", as well as having completed three loan spells at other teams. The move to Genoa is sure to mean regular first team action and improves his chances of international recognition.

Both signings are major coups for the Genovese, who have been proactive during the transfer window as they continue their push for regular European football.
