Fabio Coentrao to Sign a New Contract
Fabio Coentrao is scheduled to sign a contract extension with Real Madrid. The club's president, Florentino Perez is reportedly offering the defender a contract extension that will last until June 2018 and an annual salary worth 4 million Euros a year.
Coentrao has been the target of many big clubs recently, most notbaly Manchester United who are in the process of rebuilding the club after a disastrous season. The news of his new contract with the Los Blancos is a big blow to the Red Devils' transfer plans this coming summer. Last year, he reportedly getting ready to sign up for Man U, but the deal apparently didn't materialize. Earlier this month, the Portugese International was also linked ot a move to Inter.
The Portugese defender has been key to Madrid's success this season particularly in the Champions League. Since Marcelo has been sidelined because of an injury, he was brought back on the starting line-up of the Los Blancos. He proved in every game that he still has a lot to offer on the club and earned back the trust of the club's big bosses. Ancelotti and Perez both clearly want him to remain at the club. Aside from them, his teammates especially Ronaldo and Pepe are also solid behind him.
