Preview: Egypt vs Cameroon

Cameroon vs Egypt the final of the African Cup of Nations takes place on Sunday at 5pm at the Ohene Djan Stadium. Egypt are the current holders, keen to hang on to the trophy and their 6th win, while Cameroon can win their 5th tournament.

History

The Egyptians are aiming to add to their record five-title haul after capturing the continental trophy in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998 and 2006.

Cameroon are four-times winners, celebrating victory in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002.

Injuries and Suspensions

The Indomitable Lions will be without defender Andre Bikey, who was shown a straight red card for shoving a medical assistant in the last minute of Thursday's 1-0 win over Ghana. Arsenal defender Alexandre Song could also return for the big game.

Lions vs Pharaohs

Virtually no one could have predicted that Cameroon and Egypt, which began the tournament by playing each other, would cross paths again.

Egypt won that game 4-2, and indicated they were more than ready to wrap up this tournament again.

But Cameroon have shown great progression in this tournament and this has proved they are more than capable of a victory this time around later on in the tournament.

The African Nations has been a great tournament to watch, and the early favorites Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria have all fallen and Cameroon and Egypt have both come forward. What is most interesting about these teams is the way the side plays for each other as opposed to a select few players taking on much of the burden. Considering Samuel Eto'o will be among Cameroon's side today, that speaks volumes about their team quality.

Mbia: it's not about revenge

After they were defeated 4-2 in the earlier stages of the tournament, Cameroon player Mbia has spoken of Egypt: "We're approaching this game like any other. It's not a question of revenge, we'll do our maximum to win."

Abd Rabou: we respect Cameroon

"That match doesn't count anymore," the keeper who was a member of Egypt's 2006 title winning side, said.

"We go into the match as the African champions and we will definitely take care that we're well-prepared. We have a lot of respect for Cameroon, like we always respect our opponent."
