Costinha joins Atalanta

Portuguese midfielder Costinha has joined Atalanta from Spanish side Atletico Madrid. The player had only spent one year in Madrid and is now deemed surplus to requirements.

It is believed that the arrival of several high profile players at Atletico may have allowed Costinha the opportunity to leave the Calderon. Portuguese teammate Maniche will remain at the club, however, the arrival of compatriot Simao, Reyes and Forlan has meant Atletico needed to release funds.
