Manchester United are reportedly on the cusp of signing midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United this summer.

The 21-year-old has been identified as one of the leading targets for United but they have yet to make a formal approach to land his services.

However, according to The Telegraph, that does not appear the case and the club are apparently on the verge of agreeing on a deal with the Magpies for the young Englishman.

A report from Sky Sports News has previously indicated that the Magpies may demand more than £50m for the young midfielder, but that seems highly unlikely with United not wanting to pay extensively for any target.

Longstaff has made just nine appearances in the Premier League since making his debut in December 2018 and there are doubts whether he can succeed with the Red Devils at such an early stage of his career.

Still, he suits perfectly for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who holds the preference to sign young British players, who can potentially develop into world-beaters in years to come.
