United want to extend Ighalo's loan by one month

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to extend the loan contract of Odion Ighalo with the Premier League campaign expected to extend beyond May.

The Nigeria international joined the Red Devils on a four-month loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January and he has since contributed four goals and one assists across all competitions.

According to Sky Sports News, Ighalo's loan deal is scheduled to expire on May 31 but talks are already underway regarding a four-week extension for the marksman.

Meanwhile, United have the option to sign Ighalo on a permanent deal at the end of the season but they would still have to meet the price tag set by Shenhua.

United signed Ighalo during the final hour of the January transfer window and the lateness of the move meant that they were unable to agree on the future fee for a permanent purchase.

Manchester United are presently fifth in the league standings with 45 points. They could return to first-team action next month, provided the season resumes after the suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
