Chelsea told to pay £18m for French defender

Simakan on Chelsea radar

Strasbourg have reportedly told Chelsea to pay £18m to secure the signature of Mohamed Simakan.

The Blues have recently experienced a slump in form and they have picked up only four points from the previous six league games.

Their main aim for January remains to cut down the wage bill by offloading outcasts, but Gianluca di Marzio claims that they are also looking at potential targets.

Simakan has caught the eye of numerous European sides this term and the Blues have reportedly been told to pay £18m to sign the versatile defender.

The 20-year-old is primarily a central defender, but he has also featured in a defensive midfield role or on the right side of the backline.

Simakan's main strong point has been his tackling and he is being considered by the Blues as a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva.

It is unclear whether the Blues can afford his services this month. Should they sign him, they could loan him back to Strasbourg for the season.
