Manchester United are reportedly leading Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the race to sign Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

The Red Devils are planning to land a new right-back and they have earmarked Frimpong as their leading transfer target.

The club have watched him from the stands at Leverkusen on many occasions and a formal offer could be made soon.

It is now reported by Sport that United have taken the lead in the pursuit of the 22-year-old due to the finances involved.

Bayern clearly are not looking for a first-choice right-back. They are unlikely to compete with United for Frimpong.

Meanwhile, Barcelona need to lower their wage bill first and there is no assurance that they can make signings once more.

Hence, United are in the driving seat to land the former Manchester City graduate who has been in sparkling form this term.

The right-back has bagged eight goals and nine assists in 37 outings for Leverkusen, who are on a seven-match winning run.
