Chelsea made late swoop to sign Nigerian striker
Chelsea made a late attempt to sign Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, according to The Athletic.
The Nigerian star was crucial to Forest avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season.
He has continued the good scoring form this season, and has already scored on three occasions.
It is now revealed that Chelsea made a last-ditch approach to sign Awoniyi before the deadline.
However, their enquiry was rebuffed by Steve Cooper's side, who dismissed his chances of leaving.
Chelsea have made a disastrous start to the Premier League season, and are currently on four points.
Their only victory was against Luton Town. It was a game where they were fully expected to win.
The club need a huge turnaround after the international break to compete for a top-four finish.
Judging by the lack of cohesion within the squad, they could have another difficult campaign.
Chelsea face Bournemouth on the road when they return to league action after the two-week interval.
