Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Benjamin Pavard was keen on joining Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

The Frenchman was on the radar of the Red Devils last month, and reports claimed that talks were underway with Bayern over a transfer.

However, a deal did not materialise in the end. Pavard ended up joining Inter Milan on a permanent deal. They agreed to pay €30 million.

Romano has now disclosed that United were close to agreeing terms with the World Cup winner. Talks were also advanced with Bayern.

The deal was dependent on Harry Maguire leaving for West Ham United, but that did not happen. The centre-back refused to part ways.

As a result, the Red Devils had to abandon their pursuit of Pavard. The decision could be costly for them with Maguire no longer in his prime.

With Raphael Varane injured and Lisandro Martinez not 100 percent fit, Maguire could start alongside Victor Lindelof in United's next league game.
