Chelsea left-back could leave next year despite renewal

Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen could leave the club next year despite the recent extension of his contract.
The Dutchman spent the previous campaign on loan with Burnley in the Championship. He played a key role in their Premier League promotion.
Despite this, he has hardly featured for the Blues. The club tried to sell him to Burnley over the summer, but he was reluctant to rejoin the Clarets.
Chelsea recently triggered a one-year extension clause in his contract to keep him until June 2025, but that is unlikely to change his situation.
The Blues are open to keeping Maatsen if he is prepared to sign a new long-term deal, but the Dutchman has no desire to do so at the moment.
Maatsen wants to play regular first-team football in the prime of his career and he could be sold in either January or at the end of the season.
Manchester City, Barcelona and West Ham United are among clubs that are keeping tabs on his situation and could make moves for him.
