Man Utd want Portuguese star as Varane replacement

Manchester United have earmarked Benfica star Antonio Silva as the ideal replacement for Raphael Varane this summer.

Varane has entered the final four months of his contract and the club have no desire to extend his deal due to his injury woes.

He looks set to leave on a free transfer after June and it is claimed that Silva could be a potential replacement for the Frenchman.

Silva has been closely monitored by United scouts this term and they are convinced that he is the ideal acquisition for the club.

The 20-year-old is currently in his second full season at Benfica. He has been fantastic with his distribution and defensive work.

The youngster is also gifted with good recovery pace and rarely loses possession. He would be a statement signing for United.

United may have to trigger the €100 million release clause in his deal, considering the competition from elite European teams.

The likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool are also keeping tabs on the Portuguese, who is now a mainstay with the national side too.
