Arne Slot explains Alexis Mac Allister substitution
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said that the decision to substitute Alexis Mac Allister against Burnley was a tactical one due to his fitness levels.
The Argentina international has been a key player for the Merseyside giants, but he has had some concerns over his fitness right from pre-season.
Slot has now revealed that Mac Allister was really tired in the back end of the Burnley game and this contributed to his decision to replace him in the XI.
He said: "It is similar to Alex [Isak] but in a completely different way. He missed a lot of pre-season, so he is ready for one game a week, maybe [for] 70 to 90. He played 90 for Argentina and he was really tired after 70."
Liverpool seemed on course for a frustrating draw against the Clarets, but a late stoppage time penalty sealed the victory for the Anfield heavyweights.
The club are presently three points clear at the top of the league standings. They take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League next.
Slot will be eyeing a victory over the La Liga giants, who have picked up only five points after four games into their top-flight campaign.
