Mateta to replace Zirkzee?

Manchester United have identified Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee, according to Football Insider.

The Red Devils are currently in discussions with Roma regarding Zirkzee and he could be permitted to leave on loan with a conditional obligation to buy next summer.

In that case, the club are expected to pursue a replacement and reports claim that they are weighing up a winter approach for Mateta, who has netted 10 goals this term.

Mateta's current deal with the Eagles expires in June 2027 and the Eagles have been unable to convince him to extend. He is eyeing a bigger challenge elsewhere.

United could pounce on the situation to land him in January. He was valued at around £40 million last summer, but could be available for less in the current transfer window.

Zirkzee has already agreed personal terms with the Giallorossi and a move could materialise within the next week or so, as per reports.
