Chelsea make £40m bid to sign French sensation

Chelsea have made a bid worth £40 million to sign Rennes sensation Jeremy Jacquet, according to The Daily Mail.
The Blues are determined to bolster their central defensive department this winter and have identified Jacquet as the prime target.
Talks have been ongoing with Rennes for the 19-year-old, but as things stand, they are far away from negotiating an ideal fee for him.
They have offered a package worth £40m for the highly-rated centre-back, but Rennes are quite firm on their £61m price tag for him.
Rennes have also received approaches from three more European clubs and have responded to them with a similar asking price.
Hence, the Blues have no room for negotiations with the French outfit, and the onus is on them to meet the reported fee for Jacquet.
Otherwise, Rennes are happy to keep their graduate and will reassess his future when the current campaign comes to a close.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Jacquet.
