Chelsea eyeing surprise move for Spurs centre-back?

Chelsea could make a surprise move for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero if the latter are relegated from the Premier League this campaign.

Spurs have endured a difficult season in the top-flight, and they are currently 18th in the standings, one point behind West Ham United, who have a game in hand too.

With just five more games left, their chances of staying in the Premier League are getting slimmer, particularly with West Ham and those above them in better form.

If Spurs are relegated, there will be a potential player exodus and reports claim that Chelsea could swoop for Romero, who has been a key player for the north London side.

Romero came close to joining Atletico Madrid last summer and they remain keen on his services. However, the prospect of staying in England with the Blues could be tempting.

The Argentine will decide on his future after the World Cup this summer.
