Chelsea to move for Bendegúz Kovács?

Chelsea are reportedly exploring a summer move for AZ Alkmaar striker Bendegúz Kovács, with the Hungarian teenager emerging as one of the more intriguing young names on the European market.
The 19-year-old forward has attracted attention after a prolific season in the Netherlands, where his size, finishing and rapid progress through the AZ system have put several major clubs on alert. Standing around 6ft 5in, Kovács is not the usual academy forward profile. He offers obvious physical presence, but reports from the Netherlands and Italy suggest scouts have also been impressed by his movement, left-footed finishing and ability to attack crosses.
Chelsea's interest fits their recent recruitment strategy. The club have repeatedly targeted high-upside young players before their value explodes, and Kovács would be another bet on long-term potential rather than an instant first-team starter. One possible route being discussed is a BlueCo-style pathway, where Chelsea sign the player and then loan him to a development club, potentially Strasbourg or another partner environment, before bringing him into the Premier League picture.
AZ Alkmaar, however, are not expected to make things simple. Kovács is under contract until 2028, and the Dutch club are already said to be working on a new deal to protect his value. His current market value is believed to be around €900,000 to €1m, but that figure would not reflect the likely transfer cost. Given his age, contract length, size, goalscoring record and growing international profile, AZ could realistically demand a fee in the region of €3m to €6m, with add-ons potentially taking the package higher.
Chelsea are not alone in the race. Juventus have been strongly linked and are understood to be monitoring Kovács as part of their push to secure elite young attacking talent before prices rise. Ajax are also in the picture, which is particularly interesting because Kovács previously spent time in their youth system before moving to AZ. A return to Amsterdam could appeal if Ajax offer a clearer route to senior football.
