Man Utd preparing to sign Crystal Palace striker?

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a potential move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer.

The Red Devils currently have Benjamin Sesko as their first-choice striker. Joshua Zirkzee is the backup, but he could head for the exit door.

United want to bring in a marquee number nine rather than a deputy and have earmarked Mateta as one of the prime targets for the next transfer window.

Mateta's current deal with the Conference League champions expires in June next year and he has no plans of penning a new contract with them.

He came close to joining AC Milan at the start of the year, but the Frenchman returned to the Eagles due to concerns over his medical examination.

Milan are no longer interested in his services, but United could emerge as an option as they are open to landing a marksman with Premier League experience.

Mateta could be available for a cut-price fee of 35 million pounds.
