Chelsea urged to offload Championship level striker

Chelsea have been urged to part ways with striker Liam Delap this summer following his dismal debut campaign.

  • The Englishman signed for the Blues from Ipswich Town for £30 million last summer, and it was highlighted as a major coup.

However, Delap barely impressed over the course of the season. He scored two goals from 41 appearances in all competitions.

Former Chelsea star and reputed commentator Andy Townsend has now described Delap as a 'Championship' striker and urged the Blues to consider his departure in the next transfer window.

He said: "He’s looked like a Championship player trying to cut it at a top Premier League team, and he’s looked awkward, and it hasn’t just looked like it’s the right sort of fit."

Delap is determined to prove his credentials after an injury-plagued debut season with the Blues, but he could be sold if the hierarchy land another centre forward this summer.

Chelsea are already looking at possible striker targets, and have recently been linked with an approach for Dusan Vlahovic, whose Juventus contract expires at the end of June.
