Arsenal eyeing marquee striker before deadline

Arsenal are determined to bring in a marquee striker before the transfer window formally closes on September 1.

The Gunners have had a perfect start to the new campaign and will aim to continue their good form against Aston Villa on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the club are still not done in the transfer market and are planning to make a marquee centre-forward signing before the window closes.

Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez is the prime target for the Gunners, and they have received a boost with his club reluctant to sell to Barcelona.

Alvarez continues to hold out for a move to the Blaugrana, but Atletico are adamant that they will negotiate with another club other than Barca.

If the Argentine gives the green light, Arsenal are prepared to make a formal bid and could be willing to pay around £120 million for him.

Alvarez has been reluctant to return to the Premier League due to concerns over family visas in the UK. He has yet to change his transfer stance.
