Xabi Alonso breaks silence on Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided an update on midfielder Enzo Fernandez following the 4-3 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues continued their fine start to the league season with a second straight win. They were made to work hard in the second half but secured a deserved victory in the end.

Fernandez was absent from the matchday squad for the second successive win and when pressed on his absence, Alonso told reporters: "We'll see. We want the best for the team.

"That's why we made the decision against Luton and today. Anything that happens before Tuesday evening, we need to be aware of what is going to develop."

Fernandez is the subject of immense interest from Manchester City. The Argentine has already agreed on personal terms with the Mancunian giants for a permanent transfer.

Man City are yet to open talks with the Blues for his services, but that could happen in the next 24 hours with manager Enzo Maresca eager to reunite with the 25-year-old.
