We can beat Chelsea, says Carlos
The Brazilian super-star Roberto Carlos has warned Chelsea that they will have a tough time in Istanbul.
The former Real Madrid man has three champions league medals in his pocket and is certainly in search of more. He has claimed that Fenerbahce is the 'Turkish Real Madrid'.
"We’re playing like Real Madrid at the moment and there’s a good feeling that we can beat Chelsea,” said the defender. “We’ve already won more trophies than Real have in the past four years and you can see how much we’ve achieved by the fact we beat Sevilla in the last round."
It is a noted point that not any club has succeeded in defeating any Turkish club at home. This accounts to the enormous fan support to the clubs.
“It means a lot to the people here and we’re going to have 60,000 fans going absolutely mad when Chelsea turn up. The noise will be incredible,” Carlos said.
Fenerbahce has a great manager in Brazilian legend Zico, who has guided them to the top of their domestic league. It is the first time that Fenerbahce are going beyond the group stages of the Champions League.
“We’re one of the top eight teams in Europe but we’re not under the same amount of pressure as Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United and the others,” he said. “We can play without pressure and become the real surprise of this year’s competition.”
