Serie A Roundup: 12th May
With only one round left to go, Inter Milan have found themselves just a point ahead of Roma as their rivals defeated Atalanta 2-1. Inter were held 2-2 by Siena after they believed they would secure the title against them for a second year in a row, but Massimo Maccarone grabbed the equaliser.
Results
Inter 2-2 Siena
Roma 2-1 Atalanta
Fiorentina 3-1 Parma
Genoa 0-2 Lazio
Juventus 1-1 Catania
Livorno 0-1 Torino
Napoli 3-1 AC Milan
Palermo 0-2 Sampdoria
Reggina 2-0 Empoli
Udinese 0-2 Cagliari
Inter drew 2-2 at home to Siena, which twice rallied from a goal down. Inter defender Marco Materazzi missed a penalty in the 78th that would have put the defending champions ahead 3-2.
Mancini: we had so many chances
"We had many chances to score and close out the game, but unfortunately we didn't manage it and now we have to go to Parma and win," Inter coach Roberto Mancini said. "At the beginning of the second half, we could have gone up 3-1 and that would have closed out the game. Then we had the penalty - we had our chances."
Roma won 2-1 thanks to Panucci who headed home in the 23rd minute, and De Rossi scored a free kick in the 67th that found the top corner of the net.
Fiorentina moved into fourth place thanks to a thrilling 3-1 victory over Parma, and their move upward came at the expense of Milan who fell to a 3-1 loss to Napoli.
Milan took the lead through Igor Budan but the hosts fought back strongly with goals from Mario Alberto Santana, Franco Semioli and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.
The title will now be decided on the final day; but Roma will be disappointed they could not secure glory today.
