Portsmouth 'too good to go down'

Portsmouth midfielder Aaron Mokoena has made the bold claim that his side will not be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Paul Hart's team suffered a disastrous start to their season, which saw them lose their first seven games in the Premier League.

However, the Fratton Park outfit have won two of their last four games in the league and could upset the Premier League relegation odds by hoisting themselves out of the bottom three if they are victorious in their game against Blackburn this weekend.

South African midfielder Mokoena will be returning to Ewood Park to face his former team and claimed he is looking forward to the exciting prospect of playing against his old team-mates.

He told Sky Sports News that his Portsmouth side are "too good to go down", a phrase which has been said in previous years about teams such as Leeds and Nottingham Forest who all suffered relegation come the end of the Premier League season.

Mokoena said: "You can see in all the games we have played, besides Arsenal, we had fantastic games and we created chances.

"That luck is starting to show now and hopefully we can really keep this momentum going."

Portsmouth currently have a transfer embargo placed over their heads, meaning they cannot register any new players until they settle debts currently owed to other Premier League clubs.

They currently owe money to Chelsea and Arsenal after falling behind on installments on the deals that brought Glen Johnson and Lassana Diarra to the south coast.
