After scoring 22 goals last season to keep Crystal Palace in the Championship, Darren Ambrose was a wanted man this summer.

His old manager at Palace, Neil Warnock was keen to take Ambrose to QPR, while other Championship sides were also in the hunt for the man who signed from Charlton at the beginning of last season.

Ambrose has now put an end to speculation by putting pen to paper on a three year deal.
Last season was a turbulent one at Selhurst Park. They avoided relegation on the final day thanks to a 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday and narrowly avoided going out of business.

Palace were plunged into a relegation battle after being docked ten points for entering administration. Despite all this, they did enjoy a good run in the FA Cup, and that could interest anyone looking to have a Carling Cup bet on an outsider this season.

With the club keeping their Championship status, new owners were found and stability has finally been achieved. Former Scotland manager George Burley has been appointed by the new owners and the club can look forward for the first time in a while, even if the Championship odds suggest they face a tough season.

The appointment of Burley will have been one of the reasons Ambrose committed his future to the club. The manager gave a young Ambrose his first chance at Ipswich when the midfielder was an 18 year old in 2002. Club captain Paddy McCarthy has also signed a new contract this summer handing the club a further boost. After losing Shaun Derry and Clint Hill to QPR, Burley was desperate keep the rest of his squad.
